The actress also revealed that Liam was visited by his pediatrician, whom she called "family." In a follow-up post, she shared a photo of Liam's bandaged foot. "Now the recovery process begins. It's going to be a long journey but we take it day by day," she wrote.
As for what caused Liam to have to undergo surgery, she wrote that "Liam fell down the stairs at home and has been in pain and immobile since." The incident caused his "navicular accessory fractured bone in [the] right foot" to be removed and then the tendon to be "reattached to his main bone with a metal hook rod."
She thanked those who checked in on Liam and noted that it made him feel "so loved" and "meant a lot to him."
Apart from Liam, Spelling is also a mom to Stella Doreen, 15, Hattie Margaret, 12, Finn Davey, 11, and Beau Dean, 6, whom she shares with ex-husband Dean McDermott. Spelling previously opened up to PEOPLE about how she's her kid's "biggest advocate."
"You have to trust yourself as the parent because you're going to be your kids' biggest advocate. And that's why I teach my kids. I'm here for them now but I want to teach them to be their own best advocate when they're adults," she told PEOPLE while sharing how she parents kids of different ages.
"We're finding out a lot sooner, what delights them, what their interests are and we're not dismissing that anymore. We're not saying what fits one fits all," said Spelling. "Different kids need different things and different confidence boosters. So we've got to take it one day at a time to get through it."
