Tori Spelling is giving an update on her co-parenting relationship with estranged husband Dean McDermott.

On this week's episode of misSPELLING, the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum, 50, opened up about how she's been co-parenting with McDermott, 57, whom she's been separated from since early summer.

"I honestly had spent the time taking care of the kids and focusing on them, and they weren't ready to see their dad. And I went to see him once when he was in rehab. And we were with therapists, and it got painful and argumentative. It was a lot," Spelling recalled.

"It was a lot, and I didn't feel like he was doing well. Like, there was still a lot of anger and aggression, and so I didn't go back. And I know that hurt him a lot. He felt like we abandoned him when he was going through that process. But I had to do what was right for the kids."

Spelling noted that McDermott has said he felt like his family wasn't there for him during his rehab journey, though the mom of five explained she was told to give an addict space when they're healing.

Later in the podcast, Spelling said she's hopeful that her relationship with McDermott will be "amicable" moving forward.

"We're co-parenting very well right now. Like, the kids are seeing him again, and they're happy with his progress and the work he's done on himself. And they're proud of him, and we like his girlfriend."

"And we all co-parent together and living the dream," Spelling continued. "You hope it works out like that. You always hope that. I don't know. I don't know what's gonna happen now."

Spelling and McDermott share five kids — Beau, 7, Finn, 11, Hattie, 12, Stella, 15, and Liam, 17.

In last week's episode of her podcast, Spelling shared that her marriage to McDermott had not been the same after the two started having kids together.

"When I got pregnant, we got pregnant right away. So we got married in May, and we started trying right away," Spelling said, adding that she got pregnant shortly after her dad passed away.

"Basically I conceived right after my dad passed. So I took that as like, 'Oh, it's a sign. This is supposed to be and this is how it was planned to happen,' " she continued.

"Honestly, our relationship was never the same after we started having kids," Spelling shared. "We always said, 'We won't be those parents that change. We'll make sure our relationship is a priority, the two of us. We have date nights.'"

Spelling filed for divorce from McDermott last month, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason behind their split. In court documents obtained by PEOPLE, the mom of five is seeking sole physical and joint legal custody of their children.

According to the divorce documents, Spelling and McDermott, who have been married since 2006, listed their date of separation as June 17, 2023.
