Torchwood alumni Peter Capaldi and Cush Jumbo team up to solve a mystery in Criminal Record, an Apple TV+ crime thriller that will debut Friday, Jan. 12, 2024 (with its first two episodes of eight).

On the aforementioned Doctor Who offshoot, Capaldi (who of course once headlined Doctor Who itself) played Permanent Secretary John Frobisher, while Jumbo (whose recent TV credits include The Good Wife) played Home Office assistant Lois Habiba.

Hailing from Paul Rutman (Five Days), Criminal Record is described as a “powerful, character-driven drama” set in the heart of contemporary London, in which an anonymous phone call draws two brilliant detectives — Detective Sergeant June Lenker, who is in the early stages of her career, and Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty, a well-connected man determined to protect his legacy — into a confrontation over an old murder case.

The series promises to touch on “issues of race, institutional failure, and the quest to find common ground in a polarized Britain.”

The cast also includes Charlie Creed-Miles (Girl/Haji), Shaun Dooley (Gentleman Jack), Stephen Campbell Moore (War of the Worlds), Zoë Wanamaker (Britannia), Rasaq Kukoyi (Andor), Maisie Ayres (Silent Witness), Aysha Kala (Indian Summers), Cathy Tyson (Help), Dionne Brown and Tom Moutchi (PRU).

Criminal Record is executive-produced by Rutman, Capaldi, Jumbo and Elaine Collins, and directed by Jim Loach and Shaun James Grant.
