Madonna has postponed the fall North American leg of the world tour that was supposed to bring the superstar to Footprint Center in July as she continues to recover from a health scare that landed her in a New York City hospital's intensive care unit.

That would have been among the biggest concerts playing metro Phoenix in a month that also features Morgan Wallen holding court at Chase Field for a two-night stand in support of one of this year’s biggest albums, "One Thing at a Time.”

Peso Pluma, one of Latin music’s fastest-rising superstars, is giving two sold-out performances over two days on his first headlining U.S. tour. Pluma booked a big arena show after blazing through all available tickets for a much smaller theater date.

Here’s a look at those and other highlights of July in metro Phoenix concerts, from huge arena shows to Cowboy Junkies rocking the decidedly more intimate surroundings of the MIM Music Theatre.

Country Thunder: The most Arizona things we saw at Country Thunder 2023, from Dierks Bentley to Kurt Warner

Bonny Doon

Katie Crutchfield was so smitten by the subtle charms of "Longwave," Bonny Doon's 2018 masterstroke, that she asked guitarists Bill Lennox and Bobby Colombo to collaborate on Waxahatchee’s "Saint Cloud" album, after which they joined her on the road. And you can hear what made them such a perfect fit on their new album, "Let There Be Music," an effort Paste called "a joyous concerto" of "Laurel Canyon rock 'n' roll with a contemporary spring in its step." That's fair, but there are also distant echoes of the Velvet Underground and Pavement in the mix.

The Supersuckers

Could they be the greatest rock and roll band in the world, as they've been known to advertise themselves? On the right night in the right bar, they could definitely win a reasonable person over to that argument. Spawned in Tucson, they moved to Seattle in 1989 and signed to Sub Pop, which released "The Smoke of Hell" in 1992. Spin magazine summed up their timeless appeal as "the kind of blue chip rock' n' roll that makes dive bars so great: loud, vice-ridden rock songs with country flavor and plenty of tongue-in-cheek humor." A lot of that humor, of course, comes from Eddie Spaghetti, one of modern rock's most entertaining front men.

Jason Isbell performs during Innings Festival on Feb. 29, 2020, at Tempe Beach Park in Tempe. He returns to Tempe July 11, 2023.

This former Drive-By Trucker is among the most acclaimed Americana artists of his generation for a reason. Isbell has developed an unerring knack for penning lyrics that cut to the heart of the matter in ways that make the deeply personal feel universal. And that certainly applies to this year's model, "Weathervanes," an album hailed in Rolling Stone as both "brutally beautiful" and "Isbell’s strongest album to date."
