Folk and Americana singer Noah Kahan took to the stage at Ascend Amphitheater for a two-night run on Oct. 3 and 4. The Vermont native's performance was jam-packed with exciting moments, from Kahan's emotive belts to his openness about mental health and unexpected guest appearances.

The 26-year-old alternative vocalist and musician is known for songs "You're Gonna Go Far," "Stick Season" and "Dial Drunk." He broke through with his 2017 single "Hurt Somebody," which achieved Gold-status in the U.S.

Kahan stopped in Nashville for two evenings on his "Stick Season Tour," shortly after releasing new tracks "Call Your Mom" with Lizzy McAlpine and "Sarah's Place" with Zach Bryan. Kahan dropped album "Stick Season" in 2022, which has been lauded by fans and the folk music community.

Kahan skipped onto stage, wearing his hair in two French braids. His outfit paid tribute to his hometown of Strafford, Vermont, with the town's name patched onto his black jean jacket and the area code '802' on his arm. Kahan gave a hearty, vulnerable performance—with plenty of dry humor sprinkled between his songs.

With energy, Kahan addressed the crowd and said, "My name is Noah Kahan. I've been called the Jewish Ed Sheeran. I've been called the Prozac Lin Manuel Miranda. I've been called Jew-y Tomlinson. Tonight Nashville, for you and you alone, I am the Folk Malone, this is 'She Calls Me Back!' Thank you so much for being here tonight."

Thoughout the evening, Kahan belted out his folk-infused pop, backed by banjo and mandolin as colored lights flashed around him and audience members enthusiastically sang along to every word. Here are some of the top moments from Kahan's Oct. 4 Nashville performance.

'All My Love'

Kahan smiled earnestly as he saluted the crowd, mandolin in hand. He opened his evening by performing "All My Love," jamming out on the mandolin as he kicked off the night with high energy.

As Kahan sang, "We once sang / Retrograde, we'd shake the frame of your car / Now I know your name, but not who you are / It's all okay / There ain't a drop of bad blood, it's all my love," the band added rich harmonies behind him.

Kahan's voice alternated between smooth, silky croons and expressive, gravelly tones as he sang with an almost Appalachian-infused style. Fans sang along while Kahan proclaimed mid-song, "Nashville, you got all my love!"

Brings Gregory Alan Isakov onstage for 'Paul Revere'

To the crowd's surprise, Kahan brought on singer-songwriter Gregory Alan Isakov to perform the song "Paul Revere" together. Known for songs "Big Black Car" and "The Stable Song," Isakov, who lives in Colorado, is in town ahead of his own two-night stand at the Ryman Auditorium on Oct. 5 and 6.

"I wish I had 20 minutes to talk about how much this man's music has meant to me over my entire career. He's behind every song I've made and I would listen to him since I was 13 years old. He's just been there with me," Kahan said about Isakov, adding that he was so grateful Isakov was able to be here to perform with him tonight.

The two performed "Paul Revere" as an touching duet, both on acoustic guitars—singing without the band behind them. They switched off verses and weaved together their rich voices as they sang, "One day I'm gonna cut it clear / Ride like Paul Revere." Isakov's guitar skills shined as the two jammed together.

Before playing "Growing Sideways," Kahan was vulnerable with the crowd. He said, "This next song is about my experience with going to therapy as a kid."

Kahan continued, "I didn't even realize I was depressed, but I was spending up to 12 hours a day playing Club Penguin, which 100% if you play that game, you are depressed," in response, the crowd roared with laughter. "I would go to therapy and I would just f***** lie to my therapist nonstop."

"But I started telling the truth when I was 22 and I started to feel happier for the first time in my life. I had a lot of clarity on the years I spent lying," Kahan said, telling the crowd he wrote "Growing Sideways" about the years he spent lying in therapy.

Kahan's openness about mental health did not go overlooked. Before he took to the stage, a message appeared on the screens near the stage asking the crowd to "Take action to support mental health," offering an upgraded ticket for audience members who participated in a text campaign for "The Busyhead Project." The project is Kahan's very own mental health initiative that supports marginalized communities with crisis care and sustainable resilience.

Kahan's website explains: "Extending a hand to others, Noah unravels the taboo of mental health with his very own mental health initiative The Busyhead Project. Noah will donate a portion of every ticket sold from his massive 2023 tour to The Busyhead Project and support local organizations on the road."

Hozier surprise guest appearance for 'Northern Attitude'

Kahan brought out Irish musician and singer-songwriter Hozier to perform the song "Northern Attitude" as a duet. Hozier, known for "Take Me to Church" and "Work Song," is performing at the same venue, Ascend Amphitheater, on Oct. 5.

Kahan introduced Hozier mid-song during "Northern Attitude," saying, "We have one of the greatest stars in the whole f****** world coming onstage, y'all. Give it up for Hozier!" Their voices effortlessly came together to perform the hit as a hearty duet, and afterwards the two shared a tender hug onstage. "I love you, man! Good luck tomorrow, Hozier," said Kahan.

Kahan shouts out Nashville

Before performing "You're Gonna Go Far," Kahan took a moment to express love for Music City. "Did anybody in the crowd tonight move to Nashville to follow a dream? I came here when I was 18, I thought I would be partying with Nicki Minaj, got a record deal and ... I was absolutely alone," said Kahan, "And Nashville was where I learned to be alone. And when you learn to be alone, you find out that the whole world opens up for you when you start doing s*** by yourself."

"Whoever came here following a dream, it's gonna work out for you I promise. I love this city and this city is capable of great things."

Throughout the evening, Kahan mentioned how grateful he was for Nashville, how he used to live here, and the large role the city has played in his life. He noted he played a small concert at The East Room about six years ago and that there were only about six people there. "I never imagined I'd be able to play here," he said about Ascend Amphitheater.

His performance of 'Homesick'

Kahan closed out his show with song "Homesick." On the screen behind him, a map of Vermont was shown. The map slowly zoomed in, first showing many towns in Vermont and finally closing in on Kahan's hometown, Strafford.

Kahan left the audience with a passionate ode to his birthplace, singing "And I will die in the house that I grew up in / I'm homesick."
