Another episode of “Top Chef: Last Chance Kitchen,” another opportunity for Tom Colicchio to explain to eliminated contestants who the hell the new guy is: Soo Ahn, this season’s secret 16th cheftestant. This was a triple threat match, though, since this week’s “Top Chef” episode, “The Wright Way,” ended in the double elimination of Kaleena Bliss and Alisha Elenz. This would be a single elimination match, though, with just one chef of the three being sent home at the end. So what happened in “Plates Aplenty”? Watch the episode above, or read on to find out.

Alisha and Kaleena were eliminated as a team in a challenge inspired by architect Frank Lloyd Wright, so “LCK” brought a little more architecture to the kitchen for this redemptive cookoff. The chefs were presented with a variety of dishes and vessels with which they would plate their meals. They would choose one dish and cook something in 30 minutes inspired by those dishes.

Soo grabbed a box, which he would use to create turf and surf: meat on the lid, fish on the inside. Alisha picked up a shell-shaped dish to try to redeem herself with seafood and aguachile (she wanted scallops but all she could find was shrimp, so shrimp it is!). Kaleena was arguably the most ambitious, picking up a plate with three round segments on which she would prepare meat three ways.

In the end, they served Tom the following:

Alisha: Aguachile with Cucumber, Jicama, Avocado, Poached Shrimp and Cilantro

Kaleena: (1) Beef Tartare with Mirin, Ponzu, Fish Sauce and Soy; (2) Beef Tataki with Kimchi, Pear and Fennel; (3) Charred Ribeye with Miso and Cauliflower Puree

Soo: (1) Lamb Loin Carpaccio with Aged Balsamic, Mint, Basil and Fennel; (2) Glazed Halibut with Strawberry Bisque

Tom told Alisha that her aguachile was a significant improvement on the dish that got her eliminated, but the aguachile still wasn’t that spicy and the proportion of flavors was a little off. He had nothing but praise for Kaleena and Soo’s dishes, though. He didn’t even strain to come up with criticisms to build suspense. So it was no surprise when he announced that the chef eliminated for good was Alisha.

“I’m bummed that I’m not going to be making it through and going back to the ‘Top Chef’ kitchen,” Alisha says in her final exit interview. “I know that I came here and did the best that I could today, and I’m proud of myself for that. This challenge has kind of reminded me that this is to its core what I love to do.”
