Eden Grinshpan recalls how she and husband Ido Nivron met

Top Chef Canada’s host Eden Grinshpan has the ultimate love story.

The cookbook author used Valentine’s Day as the perfect opportunity to share how she “got engaged to a stranger in 5 weeks.” That "stranger" is her now-husband Ido Nivron of more than 10 years.

Along with a collection of photos of with Nivron, the mom of two wrote about how years ago, she had just gone through a breakup and went home to see her parents. “On my last night in town I went out to a bar and met these girls who wanted to set me up with their friend back in NYC…so they had me message him on Facebook,” she wrote on Instagram.

Grinshpan, who has been hosting Top Chef Canada since 2017, continued, “We went for a drink when I got back to NYC and by the end of our first date he was introducing me to people as his girlfriend.”

She described how Nivron told his mother he was going to marry her after their first date and proposed five weeks later. The pair got married the following summer, and a decade later they have “two incredible daughters,” she said.

“I couldn’t ask for a better partner and husband in life,” Grinshpan wrote, referring to Nivron as her “forever Valentine.”

Grinshpan and Nivron shared more details about their romantic story in a YouTube video posted in the fall.

She explained how she went out to a bar on her last night in Israel and had the “best time.” Nivron clarifies, laughing: “She means she got shlammed.” Her social media post left out the detail that her new friends told Nivron to add Grinshpan on Facebook, which he did, but that he didn’t send her a message.

Nivron scoffed and clarified that it was only “three days” but in that time Grinshpan took the wheel.

“I wrote him and was like, ‘Hey, what’s up, when are we hanging?'” she recalled.

The two decided on a time and place and she said her first time seeing him was like “a scene from a movie. It was like slo-mo."

As the night went on, the pair became more comfortable and “made out.” He performed some tricks, like an Ace Ventura: Pet Detective impression and a handstand, and “it did it for me,” she said. “In that moment I was like, ‘This is the man I’m going to marry.’”

The pair went on a date the following day and then he took the following week off from work so they could spend every day together.

Just a little over a month after meeting, the two went grocery shopping at Essex Market in New York City. While walking around, Nivron asked Grinshpan, “Where do you usually grocery shop?” and when she showed him he said, “Perfect, then this is the place,” and got down on one knee to propose.

She said yes, they moved in together and the couple wed a year and a half later.
