Top 5 Moments of Episode 7:

1. One Big Not So Happy Family: As Phil Dunster said, “Some people make up for the awkwardness by being mean.” There was no better personification of awkwardness and meanness than the return to camp after last week’s tribal council. While on the surface, everyone seemed calm, there was an undercurrent of mistrust, especially from Venus Vafa. Convinced that Soda Thompson voted for her, she became confrontational, only to learn that it was Charlie Davis who wrote down her name. Charlie was scolded by Q Burdette, but being reprimanded only confirmed to Charlie that Venus had to go.

2. Camp Life: Ben Katzman revealed another layer to himself after having a panic attack, which led to him bonding with Kenzie Petty, who has experience with anxiety disorder in her family. This was the most heartwarming moment of the season for me, as I know how that feels, and to see Kenzie step up in such a major way made many a grinch’s hearts grow multiple sizes just watching the heartfelt reaction.

3. Challenge Time: The immunity challenge split the tribe into two groups, meaning two individual winners for immunity and two eliminations on the horizon. If the challenge looked familiar to you, it has been done before and it’s a doozy. I also loved that they played the alphabet game while competing, debating the rules as they played. Nobody loved this more than Jeff, who genuinely seems to enjoy this group. In the end, Kenzie and Maria Shrime Gonzalez won immunity. Maria also won her team a reward in the process. Team Kenzie was sent to the old Siga Camp and would be first up at Tribal Council.

4. Tribal Council Number One: Q claimed to throw the challenge on purpose as a test for his allies, which I did not buy for one minute. Tim Spencer targeted Hunter McKnight, unaware that he had an idol. Q was less than impressed by Tim’s over eagerness to do anything to win and decided that Tim’s journey on the show was soon to be ended. Tiffany Nicole Ervin thought more long term, noting that the former tribal lines of Nami vs Siga were just fleeting concepts and targeted Ben, noting Tim was a bad liar. Everything was very much up in the air at Tribal Council, as Jeff noted that former tribal lines meant bupkis at this point. Tim did himself no favors as he and Hunter verbally sparred, but Hunter hit that knockout punch as Tim was voted out, just missing the jury.

5. Tribal Council Number Two: Team Maria enjoyed a massive reward and bonded in the process. Venus did quick math and targeted Charlie as the first member of the jury, but Tevin Davis eyed a blindside, which would be an amazing start for his resume at this point of the game. Charlie was worried that his future in the game was at stake, but Soda was more than willing to keep him around and get rid of Venus. Liz Wilcox wanted Soda out instead, which was also the sentiment of Tevin. The chaos intensified as Venus, opting for a big move, threw Tevin’s name out, showing that she cannot read the room whatsoever. Charlie took her suggestion seriously though, as he has had the breakout moment of realizing that the former Nami members were more than willing to turn on one another. At Tribal Council, Charlie was the most confident he has ever been there, as he fought to stay while knowing the former tribal lines were very fraught. In the end, Soda became the first member of the jury, giving Venus props for the blindside. She, at least on paper, seems like a vote that could go to anyone in the finale just based off of her ability to appreciate gameplay.
