Top 5 concerts this week in Sarasota, Bradenton, Venice, Lakewood Ranch, Englewood

We're now in the thick of June and its lineup of local events, with this edition of concert picks spanning Sarasota, Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, Venice, Englewood and Port Charlotte. Musicians set to visit our area this week include two out-of-state blues/roots acts, each playing numerous shows across multiple counties.

Meanwhile, Bradenton's Oscura will host several Sarasota-Manatee and Tampa Bay indie acts, including one playing an album release show, and a Monday night jazz concert series in Sarasota will simultaneously celebrate the Juneteenth holiday taking place on the same date. Here are this week's highlights. Event details are subject to change.

For the third weekend in a row this month, Bradenton cafe and venue Oscura will hold a release show for a local band. This week is self-described "aggressive music for the soul" duo Moth Bite, hailing from Bradenton and featuring guitarist Nico Sanchez and drummer Stephen Husbands, who are already onto their next album after starting playing in 2022 and releasing their self-titled debut full-length the same year. Cincinnati-based blues singer-songwriter John Ford returns to our area this week, playing shows in Sarasota, Manatee and South Sarasota counties. Ford describes his sound as blending "the blues of the 1920s and '30s, the blues of Robert Johnson and Son House, a bit of 1940s country and a pinch of gospel rhythm." 8 p.m. Friday; Troll Music, 628 E. Oscura's live music calendar this week also includes this show featuring multiple artists from the other side of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. The lineup includes St. Petersburg's Chaunces, whose 2021 single "doing the most" features a genre-blending sound incorporating alternative, electronic, pop and jazz. Also set to perform is Alexander Charos, vocalist/guitarist for one of St. Pete's longtime standout bands, indie rock group The Grapes, which released the return album "Wax Fates" last year. Blues-rock guitarist and singer-songwriter Matthew Curry from Bloomington, Illinois, also visits our area for multiple shows this week. His fans include Peter Frampton, The Doobie Brothers and Steve Miller Band, all of whom he's opened for. Curry also appeared onscreen in the 2015 David Spade comedy "Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser," portraying the late Lynyrd Skynyrd frontman and Jacksonville native Ronnie Van Zant. Can't make either of these shows? Jazz Club of Sarasota's Monday Night Jazz Cabaret Series, featuring musicians in the genre performing at Florida Studio Theatre's John C. Court Cabaret, continues with this concert that also celebrates the Juneteenth holiday taking place the same day. Sarasota jazz vocalist Synia Carroll, known both for her original compositions and interpretations of other artists including the late great Nina Simone, performs. She'll be joined by Paul Gavin on drums, Simon Lasky on piano and Mauricio Rodriguez on bass. 6:30 p.m. doors, dinner/drinks, 7:30 p.m. show Monday; John C.
