Top 3 Performances From ‘American Idol’ Top 12

Wednesday’s episode of American Idol showcased the second group of Top 12 singers, and there were a few standouts. First was Trent Harmon. In his video introduction, Trent showed us the many hats that he owns, including one that he stole from a girl. He commented, “Most people think it’s a style thing, but really these hats just keep my head warm.” Despite the multitude of hats, Trent didn’t wear a cowboy hat as he sang Chris Stapleton’s “What Are You Listening To?”

In Olivia Rox’s introduction, she explained that she once told Aretha Franklin how much of a fan she was and then launched into a song she thought was Aretha’s. Sadly, Aretha responded with, “Sweetheart, that was a beautiful Minnie Riperton song.” She must have recovered in time for Idol, as she sang “Confidence” by Demi Lovato.

The best performance of the night was by Dalton Rappatoni, who sang an interesting version of Billy Idol’s “Rebel Yell.” It was so good that it left Judge Jennifer Lopez cooing at how cute he was and how well he sang.

American Idol airs Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8 p.m. on FOX.
