Top 10 longest Best Actress Oscar-winning performances [PHOTOS]

Since 2020, the Oscar for Best Actress has exclusively gone to performers with more than 80 minutes of screen time in their respective films. These especially lengthy recent turns account for about one-fifth of the winning ones that have ever hit that benchmark in the 96-year history of the category. This countdown is presented in terms of physical screen time, meaning any time an actress can actually be seen on screen or heard off screen. Moments involving silent and non-visible scene presence do not apply here. All 99 of this category’s winning performances were able to be counted, including the three that earned Janet Gaynor (“7th Heaven”; “Street Angel”; “Sunrise”) the inaugural prize in 1929 and the two from Katharine Hepburn (“The Lion in Winter”) and Barbra Streisand (“Funny Girl”) that tied for the 1969 honor.

Four of the entrants on this list are from the 21st century, while three others prevailed prior to the 20th Academy Awards in 1948. The overall screen time average for winners in this category is one hour, five minutes, and 30 seconds, which 49 victors have surpassed.
