Tony Romo to Replace Phil Simms as CBS Sports' Lead NFL Analyst
Tony Romo is trading in his football helmet for a microphone.
The Dallas Cowboys quarterback is retiring from the NFL and joining CBS Sports as their lead analyst for NFL games, our sister site Deadline is reporting. Romo will join play-by-play man Jim Nantz in the broadcast booth for the top CBS game each week, replacing fellow ex-quarterback Phil Simms.

Romo’s status was up in the air for months: The 36-year-old was injured all last season and replaced by rookie Dak Prescott, who led the Cowboys to a 13-3 record and the playoffs, making Romo expendable. Instead of signing with another NFL team, Romo opted to move onto broadcasting. He retires as one of the best quarterbacks in Cowboys history, setting team records for career passing yards and touchdowns, but he only won two playoff games in his 14-year pro career.
Simms’ future with CBS Sports is unclear. He and Nantz have been the network’s top NFL broadcasting duo since 2003. Romo will make his broadcasting debut alongside Nantz when the 2017 NFL regular season kicks off in September.
