Rock: You may be asking yourself "What is an emo orchestra?" if you noticed a listing for The Emo Orchestra performance featuring Hawthorne Heights on Thursday at the McCallum Theatre. Emo, a subgenre of rock rock, perfectly describes the Ohio band Hawthorne Heights, who will perform their own songs as well as a vast array of emo hits by beloved groups such as Taking Back Sunday, My Chemical Romance and Dashboard Confessional — all while accompanied by a live orchestra.
The event is a partnership between the Palm Desert theater and Pioneertown venue Pappy and Harriet's. McCallum President CEO and Artistic Director Mitch Gershenfeld said in a statement in June that he's always "respected" what the small high desert venue known for featuring acts such as Paul McCartney and Pixies has contributed to the local music scene.

Magic: Magician Eric Buss has a gift for fusing comedy and magic. The Second City Comedy School graduate appeared on "The Late Show with David Letterman," "America's Got Talent" and "The Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon."
Buss will perform on Thursday through Saturday at Marvyn's Magic Theater.

Vocal pop: Do the songs "You're A Lady" or "Knock Three Times" ring any bells? What about "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree? These are hit songs that define the career of Tony Orlando, which he performed during the '70s with vocalist Dawn. Orlando, who told Coachella Valley Independent in 2018 that he once lived in Palm Desert, is still a prominent performer and draws a crowd of older and younger fans.
Orlando will perform Friday at Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa in Rancho Mirage.

R&B: During the mid-2000s, the rock band Gnarls Barkley featuring vocalist CeeLo Green and producer Danger Mouse put out the song "Crazy," and it became an immediate hit, as did its debut album "St. Elsewhere." Videos featuring fans lip-synching or dancing to "Crazy" went viral on YouTube, including a teenage boy whose sister was secretly recording him singing the song and dancing with a giant stuffed animal.
Gnarls Barkley failed to capture the same success in 2008 following the release of the second album "The Odd Couple," but Green was able to find the same success as a solo artist. Much like "Crazy," his catchy and infectious 2010 single "F**k You" became a hit. An age-appropriate version titled "Forget You" was also released.
Green will perform Friday at Morongo Casino Resort and Spa.

Saturday
Country: Jo Dee Messina is not related to singer-songwriter Jim Messina, but many of her fans still think she is. The "Stand Beside Me" singer with six No. 1 Billboard Country music chart singles, two platinum albums and three gold records is still going strong. In 2017, Messina was diagnosed with cancer, but announced last year she is cancer free. Even though she hasn't released an album since 2014, the single "Just To Be Loved" dropped in July.
Messina will perform at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino on Saturday.
