Tony Hale, Sam Richardson to Join Critical Role for Special Tabletop Game Fundraiser (Exclusive)

Comedians and actors Tony Hale and Sam Richardson are rolling the dice in support of Critical Role Foundation’s latest event.

Former Veep co-stars Hale (Arrested Development) and Richardson (The Afterparty) are reteaming to appear as guests as part of a one-shot tabletop-based campaign and fundraiser held in collaboration with nonprofit Comic Relief US. Both will appear as part of Critical Role’s “Choose Their Adventure … Again!” special episode for Giving Tuesday on Nov. 28 benefiting the Red Nose Day campaign, which raises funds in support of children affected by poverty, systemic inequity and injustice globally.

Critical Role’s chief creative officer and game master, Matthew Mercer, will guide Hale, Richardson and fellow Critical Role co-founders Liam O’Brien, Laura Bailey and Taliesin Jaffe on the fan-influenced journey set among the islands of the Shattered Teeth. The cast will portray a troupe of unlikely allies who find themselves on a fateful journey that promises “high-adventure and absolute absurdity.”

Fans can allocate their donations made through Critical Role’s Tiltify page between Oct. 25 and Nov. 3 toward certain story elements featured in various polls, which will be used to help shape what they see as part of the special Giving Tuesday episode. Donations can control the characters and class the cast plays, the evil they fight, the event that launches the adventure, the treasure they uncover and more.

The selections with the highest amount of donations by the Nov. 3, 11:59 p.m. PT, deadline will see the scales tipped in favor of those story elements. The episode will then air live on Critical Role’s Twitch and YouTube channels Nov. 28 at a yet-to-be-announced time. The VOD will also be available via YouTube the next day starting at 12 p.m. PT.

The 2023 fundraising event marks the third time Critical Role Foundation has hosted a choose your adventure-style fundraising campaign tied to Red Nose Day. Hale and Richardson’s guest appearances follow last year’s event, which memorably featured Stephen Colbert and real props from the Lord of the Rings franchise.
