In the words of host Ariana DeBose, "Broadway's back, baby. And she's waiting for you."

The Tony Awards turned 75 Sunday night, returning to Radio City Music Hall after three long years away for a sumptuous celebration of Broadway's best and brightest. Hosted by DeBose — fresh off her Oscar-winning turn as Anita in Steven Spielberg's West Side Story — the event marks the first time the show has returned to its original month and venue since before the pandemic. It's also the first time in history that the Tony Awards are airing live coast-to-coast. Like last year, coverage is split between CBS and Paramount+.

During the Paramount+ hour, several favored shows collected golden statues including Six for Best Costume Design and Best Original Score of a Musical and MJ for Best Sound Design and Best Lighting Design of a Musical. But when the CBS ceremonies began, the mood was celebratory from the opening, which featured DeBose showing off her triple-threat capabilities with a mash-up performance of current and past musicals (including a rendition of "Somewhere").

On the play side, Take Me Out proved its rave reviews weren't an anomaly, as the show won Best Revival of a Play and Jesse Tyler Ferguson took home an award for Best Actor in a Featured Role in a Play. The Lehman Trilogy also won big, taking home multiple technical awards as well as Best Play, Best Direction of a Play for Sam Mendes, and Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Play for Simon Russell Beale.

For musicals, A Strange Loop took home the top award for Best Musical, despite the fact that MJ's Myles Frost took the Leading Actor in a Musical honor that many expected would go to Jacquel Spivey for his acclaimed performance as Usher. Joaquina Kalukango claimed the Leading Actress Actress in a Musical award for Paradise Square, an honor she accepted to a standing ovation while delivering an emotional speech.

Company was another big winner of the night. In addition to Patti LuPone taking top honors for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical, costar Matt Doyle took home honors for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical, and the show won the Tony for best revival.
