Jesse Tyler Ferguson displays a few of the 40 characters he plays in Broadway’s Fully Committed

Jesse Tyler Ferguson is back on Broadway in a one-man show called Fully Committed, in which he plays no less than 40 different characters. On Friday’s The Tonight Show, he showed off a few of them.

Fully Committed centers on Sam, who works the reservations line at a popular restaurant — which means Ferguson also plays everyone calling in trying to get a table, as well as some of the people who work at the restaurant itself.

“It’s 40 characters in a 90-minute show, and I’m playing everyone,” the Modern Family star told Fallon.

After explaining how he preps to play all those people, Fallon asked Ferguson to show him some of them. The late-night host then got to meet Fully Committed’s French maître d’, Jean Claude, a British hostess (whose voice he modeled on Adele’s), and the restaurant’s chef.
