Tom Wilkinson, the Emmy-winning actor who starred in the 1997 film The Full Monty and reprised his role in the 2023 sequel TV series, has died. He was 75.

Wilkinson passed away on Saturday at his home in the UK, according to the BBC. No cause of death has been reported.

In The Fully Monty, Wilkinson plays an unemployed steel worker, Gerald, who joins a striptease dance group to make money. He recently reprised the role — 26 years after the film’s debut — in Hulu’s sequel series.

Wilkinson appeared in numerous other TV shows throughout his career, winning an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie in 2008 for his portrayal of Benjamin Franklin in HBO’s John Adams. He earned three other Emmy nominations for his work in Normal (2003), Recount (2008) and The Kennedys (2011). He appeared in other series including Belgravia, Watership Down, Prime Suspect and more.

Wilkinson also starred in several films, earning two Oscar nominations — one for his role as Matt Fowler, the husband of Sissy Spacek’s character, in 2002’s In the Bedroom, and another for his portrayal of attorney Arthur Edens in 2008’s Michael Clayton starring George Clooney.

Wilkinson’s other notable film credits include The Grand Budapest Hotel, Snowden, Selma, The Green Hornet, Batman Begins and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, among others.
