Tom Whedon, TV Writer and Joss Whedon’s Father, Dies at 83
Tom Whedon, father of “The Avengers” director Joss Whedon, died on Tuesday at the age of 83.
According to an Instagram post from his son Jed Whedon, who currently serves as showrunner on ABC’s “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD,” Whedon passed away “in relative peace” surrounded by family.
Whedon himself was an accomplished television writer and producer, having worked on series including “The Dick Cavett Show,” “Benson” and “The Golden Girls.” He also served as head writer on the children’s series “The Electric Company.”

Whedon’s son Zack is also a television writer, with writing credits on series including “Fringe,” “Halt and Catch Fire” and “Deadwood.” He is also survived by two other sons, Matthew and Samuel, as well as his wife Pam.
