Tom Selleck is looking back at his "accidental," nearly 60-year career in an upcoming new memoir, You Never Know, hitting shelves on May 7. And while promoting the book, the 79-year-old made a shocking admission about his use of technology, or more accurately, lack thereof.

"Occasionally I've looked up my name," Selleck told People in an exclusive interview published this week, referring to Google searching himself. "That started really with the book, but I've never sent my own email. I had a secretary. I've never texted anybody."

However, that doesn't mean he doesn't have any help in that department. Selleck credits his 66-year-old wife Jillie, who he's been married to since 1987, with sending texts for him.

“I have a certain luxury where I probably couldn't survive otherwise," he quipped, referring to his wife. “But I don't know. I have a hard time writing things down, which is weird for a guy who's pushing a book."

After inadvertently getting his first taste of the limelight during an appearance on The Dating Game as a college senior in 1965, Selleck appeared in TV movies and soap operas like The Young and the Restless. Eventually, he scored the career-changing role of lifetime when he was cast in the lead role as Thomas Magnum in the CBS crime drama Magnum, P.I., which ran for eight seasons from 1980 to 1988.

But compared to many Hollywood actors, Selleck's fame hasn't come with the usual trappings. "I don’t have the hooks that a lot of people do," he admitted. "I didn’t rehabilitate myself or have this tragic life. I had my own share of certainly ups and downs, but I’ve been very fortunate."

Currently, Selleck can be seen in the final season of Blue Bloods, which is wrapping up an impressive 14-season run.
