Tom Payne joins Kyle Meredith to talk about his roles in Imaginary, Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga, The Walking Dead, and more. Listen to the new episode above, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaking to the myriad of horror and horror-adjacent roles he has tackled, Payne dives into how the process of approaching scary or thrilling material differs from that of other genres. From the upcoming Blumhouse production Imaginary to his tenure on The Walking Dead, the actor has had to dial into his spooky side.

As the focus shifts to his time on The Walking Dead, the actor reveals that he didn’t want to become a zombie after his the death of his character. “I did not want to sit in makeup for hours and hours and wear a latex hood,” he explains. “The guys and girls who play the Walkers, they deserve medals, because they bake in the sun. They’re in very uncomfortable positions, and they’re wearing all this makeup, and have to get in earlier than us in the morning and leave later than us at night. That’s the hardest job on that show.”

Payne also finds the time to touch on his other notable roles, including the upcoming The Physician, Prodigal Son (which he thinks was canceled too early), and Costner’s anticipated double-feature Horizon: An American SagaOf the latter, Payne tells the story of crying during his first day on set.
