Tom Hanks Returns ID to Fordham Student Along With a Personal Message

Lauren Ashley was just a normal senior in college… until Tom Hanks found her school ID and her entire world “exploded from there."

The Fordham University student tells The Insider With Yahoo she lost her card while taking a run through a New York City park on Monday, not realizing it was missing until she got back to school. While the double major student says she "didn’t freak out too bad,” she did report the ID as being lost and paid $20 for a replacement. It wasn’t until Tuesday that she realized a good Samaritan had recovered her original and was trying to track her down.

“I first heard Tom Hanks had my ID when I’m sitting in the library after my first class,” Ashley explains. “I have an email from one of my old professors and it’s a link to Twitter and it says ‘you’re famous.’ I was like, 'What? I don’t have Twitter.’ So I clicked on the link and that’s when I saw the tweet, the picture, my ID, and Tom Hanks with his little blue check next to his name."

Lauren! I found your Student ID in the park. If you still need it my office will get to you. Hanx. pic.twitter.com/Ee9kK4V4qf

After the world learned of the actor’s involvement, the college student says her "phone blew up like you wouldn’t imagine” and life has been “a little crazy” since then. While she doesn’t have a Twitter account, she did reach out to Hanks’s office via Facebook and on Wednesday morning was reunited with her ID in addition to receiving a personal message from the Oscar winner.
