Tom Hanks’ Mister Rogers Film Finally Gets A Title

Sony Pictures has unveiled the official title for the long-referred to as untitled Mr. Rogers/Tom Hanks Project. The Marielle Heller-helmed film, which at one point went by You Are My Friend, is now titled A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.

Based on a screenplay by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster’s screenplay, the pic is inspired by the article Can You Say. . . Hero? by Tom Junod. In the heart-warming story, a cynical journalist begrudgingly accepts an assignment to write a profile piece on the beloved icon and finds his perspective on life transformed.

Matthew Rhys will play Lloyd, a fictionalized version of Junod. Susan Kelechi, Chris Cooper, Enrico Colantoni, Maryann Plunkett, Tammy Blanchard, Wendy Makkena, Sakina Jaffrey, Carmen Cusack, Noah Harpster, and Maddie Corman also co-star.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood is slated to bow in theaters October 18.
