Tom Hanks Had the Most Classic Question for His Son Chet & the Ensuing Text Messages Are Pure Gold

Tom Hanks is in the same situation as many Boomers: struggling to keep up with the latest in pop culture. And he’s turning to his kids for clarification.

Hanks’ son Chet — an in-the-know Millennial — posted screenshots of a text conversation with his dad on Instagram. The Oscar-winning actor turned to Chet (whom he apparently calls “Big Main”) and asked, “can you explain the Drake/Kendrick Lamar feud to me?”

And it’s a fair question coming from Hanks. Unless he’s listening to their music or seeing the discourse on social media, there’s not much reason for the A-lister to know much about the beef between the A-list rappers.

And though lots of kids ignore their parents’ texts, Chet was ready to answer this one.

“Yeah so Drake and this other dude J Cole been saying they along with Kendrick are the ‘Big 3’ in Rap,” Chet started. “Then Kendrick put out a song saying, ‘F–k the Big 3, it’s just big ME’ initiating the beef.”

Chet continued to break down the epic back-and-forth, explaining how Drake said Lamar had small feet and how Lamar called Drake a “dead beat dad” and made fun of his Canadian accent.

“So Drake came back and was like, ‘oh yeah? Well I heard you beat your wife’ but literally like 30 seconds later Kendrick put out a diss overshadowing Drake’s diss where he pretty much methodically dismantles Drakes entire psyche and called him a pedophile for flirting with young girls and revealing Drake had another kid that he was hiding from the public,” Chet said.

Chet explained that the whole second family storyline was fake and that Drake said he had people feed Lamar false information to make him look stupid.

“But it didn’t even matter cuz then Kendrick just dropped another West Coast banger where he really went in on labeling Drake a pedophile that was pretty much the sonic equivalent of when you took me to your high school in Oakland and we walked in on the basketball game and everybody started going nuts,” Chet continued, using a sweet shared memory to put things in perspective for his dad.

“Like if you heard it you would just automatically know how to Crip walk with a stank face while clutching an Oscar in each hand with Marshawn Lynch, then dap him up and tell him ‘Town Bidness’ which solidified the win not only for Kendrick but the entire West Coast.'”

Wow. Are you seeing it? Chet gave his dad a full play-by-play and put it all into terms the Castaway star should have understood. “Should” being the operative word.

“Holy cow!” he said, reminding us that this all came from a curious Boomer.

” … Who’s winning??”

*Facepalm* “Who’s winning?!” In the words of Chet, “Did you not just read what I said?” (See the full conversation HERE.)

Oh man, Hanks! What happened there? You had the full attention of your son and a sweet bonding moment turned into a complete fail. And what started as a classic question from a parent turned into a classic moment of parental confusion. Though Chet didn’t share the rest of the conversation, we hope the Toy Story star eventually turned things around.

Because who could be winning in their own right is this endearing father-son duo.
