Tom Hanks Is the Grumpiest Man Alive in ‘A Man Called Otto’ Trailer (Video)

Tom Hanks shows a new side to himself in his latest film “A Man Called Otto,” in which he may just be the grumpiest man alive – someone who hates cats, clowns and bad drivers.

“A Man Called Otto” is a comedy about Otto Anderson, a crotchety, set-in-his-ways widower who whose life changes when a young family moves in next door and introduces him to a quick-witted and very pregnant mother and two little girls who manage to tug on his heartstrings.

The film is an English-language adaptation of the best selling novel from Sweden “A Man Called Ove,” which was also adapted into a Swedish film that became an international box office hit.

This is an American version of the story, and of course Hanks’ character manages to ruffle some feathers in the worst way.

“You cannot use this road without a permit,” Hanks barks at a UPS driver. “You know the other guys don’t do this, the guys with the white trucks. How come it’s always you brown guys? And I don’t mean that racially!”

Marc Forester directed “A Man Called Otto” from a screenplay by David Magee (“Life of Pi”) and based on the book by Fredrik Backman and the film written and directed by Hannes Holm. “Otto” also stars Mariana Treviño, Rachel Keller and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo.

The film is produced by Rita Wilson, Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman and Fredrik Wikström Nicastro.

Sony’s Columbia Pictures will be releasing “A Man Called Otto” in theaters on Dec. 25 in limited release followed by a wide release on Jan. 13. Check out the first trailer above.
