Tom Hanks and Dr. Oz Slam CBD Company for Using Their 'Likenesses Illegally' to Promote Products
Tom Hanks defended his name on Instagram Tuesday, explaining to fans that the company CannaPro CBD has been using his name and photos illegally to promote its cannabis products.
In the caption, Hanks wrote, "This is false and an intentional hoax. I've never said this and would never make such an endorsement. Come on, man! Hanx!"
The caption refers to his fake quote in the photo, which reads, "The advances Doctor Oz has made in the CBD industry are remarkable. I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't had the chance to try it out for myself. After using CANNAPRO CBD for two weeks I was already feeling like a new me."
However, Dr. Oz isn't to blame for the false advertising either. The talkshow host also took to Twitter to defend involvement in the debacle.

What did Dr. Oz have to say about it?
Dr. Oz, born Mehment Cengiz Oz, quickly posted to Twitter, also denying he had anything to do with the CBD company.
In his tweet, Dr. Oz wrote, "Could not agree more with @tomhanks. This is a fake and misleading advertisement intended to take advantage of consumers using false claims and our likenesses illegally. I am not involved with any cannabis companies."
While the two popular figures have denied their involvement, CannaPro CBD has yet to come forward with an apology or explanation.
Fans pointed out the ridiculousness of the advertisement in the comments.
Fans in the comment section on Tom Hank's Instagram post made jokes at just how silly the advertisement sounded. One kicked things off commenting "Forest Hemp."
Another followed up with, "As if Tom Hanks needs to 'feel like a new him.' HE'S TOM HANKS."
Other fans bashed the company for a bad attempt at a money-grab with false advertising.
"Wow people just want to get rich using celebrities SMH," one wrote. While another questioned the legal implications, writing, "Can't you sue them for that false statement? That's a pretty ballsy move."
This isn't the first time Tom Hanks was used in illegal advertising for CBD.
If this article is bringing up a sense of deja vu, it may be because this isn't the first time Hanks posted to Instagram about a CBD company illegally using his likeness.
Back in July 2019, Hanks posted a very similar looking advertisement for Cali Naturals and denied his involvement with the company.
The caption on his post reads, "FRAUD! INTERNET FAKE! Just so you know. Hanx."
The Cali Naturals fake Tom Hanks quote in the picture reads, "The advances Tony has made in the CBD industry are remarkable. I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't had the chance to try it out for myself. After using Cali Naturals for two weeks I was already feeling like a new me."
It's probably about time Tom Hanks gets his lawyers involved.
In fact, the buzz online is that July wasn't the first time Tom Hanks was used in false CBD advertising either. Back in December 2018, The CBD Hub on Twitter posted a picture of the actor next to another fake quote allegedly from 2017.
The quote reads, "The first time I ever tried CBD was to help soothe my anxiety. I was fed up with taking various pills to try and make me 'better.' It wasn't how I wanted to live my life anymore, so I gave CBD oil a try. It was a huge relief for me to feel like myself, yet the edge was gone. A bonus to the whole thing was the relief for various aches and pains I have, especially arthritis in my knees. It immediately alleviated 90% of my pain."
It seems like we'll see a few more "false advertising" Instagram posts from Tom in the future if he doesn't step up and pursue some legal action. He should likely take note of his famous pals Sandra Bullock and Ellen Degeneres who are re-claiming their names and currently suing a beauty company over similar false endorsements.
