Tom Cruise messes with James Corden while skydiving

On Thursday’s Late Late Show With James Corden, the host jumped out of an airplane with actor Tom Cruise. The story goes that Corden accepted this mission during Tuesday’s show, after scoffing at Cruise for doing his own stunts.

One stunt in particular that Corden pretended not to be impressed with, a skydiving maneuver called a HALO jump, has been getting a lot of attention for Cruise during promotion for Mission: Impossible — Fallout. And though they didn’t attempt that, Corden did get a very real, and very cool, experience.

Corden tandem-jumped with a longtime professional, while Cruise jumped solo alongside them. The dive, accompanied with orchestral music, is pretty spectacular to watch. It even features a little humor, with Cruise grabbing Corden’s arm midair to mess with him.

Corden’s landing was a little rough — it included the splits and a face-plant — but his celebration with Cruise was proof enough that Corden was feeling nothing but good things when he was back on solid ground.

The Late Late Show With James Corden airs weeknights at 12:37 a.m. on CBS.
