Tom Cruise Gave Dakota Fanning Her First Cell Phone

Netflix's latest series sees Andrew Scott star as Tom Ripley opposite a host of spectacular talent, including Dakota Fanning as Marge Sherwood.

Fanning and Scott are on the rounds promoting the show, and in a brand new interview with Harpers Bazaar, Scott guessed something fans might not know about his co-star.

The question "Who gave Dakota her first cell phone?" arose as part of the game they were playing, to which Andrew Scott took a stab in the dark and guessed "Tom Cruise".

Fanning confirmed, saying, "It was a Razr, Motorola Razr". "I was so excited," she said, "I didn't have anybody to call or text at that time, you know, I was eleven, but I loved having it".

Cruise and Fanning shared the screen in Steven Spielberg's 2005 film War of the Worlds when Fanning was just eleven years old.

The film follows Cruise and Fanning as the father and daughter duo, Ray and Rachel Ferrier, fighting for survival amidst an alien invasion.

Cruise's generosity didn't begin and end with the cell phone, "Tom sends me a birthday gift every year and has since that birthday," Fanning said.

Scott responded, "That's lovely," jokingly adding, "he's never given me anything".
