Comedy has always been a strong suit for Netflix, and the streaming giant has made waves lately with plans to lean into sports and live programming. It would make sense then that a combination of all three would create a hit program, and “The Roast of Tom Brady” — a comedic takedown of the celebrated NFL quarterback that streamed live on May 5 — landed squarely within the overlap of that triple Venn diagram.

The celebration/slam of the seven-time Super Bowl winner was seen in a whopping 3.4 million households during its first week streaming, easily putting it atop the Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report for the week of May 6 to May 12. Unsurprisingly, the Boston Designated Market Area (DMA) over-indexed by 147% above the national average, showing that even though Brady left the Patriots after 20 seasons, he still holds a place in New England fans’ hearts.

“The Roast of Tom Brady” leads a strong Netflix run atop the charts this week. It’s followed by Brooke Shields’ “Mother of the Bride,” which was seen in 1.6 million U.S. households over its debut weekend. Jerry Seinfeld’s “Unfrosted” remains No. 3 for the second consecutive week, even after getting toasted by critics. Rounding out the Netflix block is “A Man in Full,” which stars Jeff Daniels in an adaptation of Tom Wolfe’s 1998 novel. It’s up two spots from last week at No. 4.

At No. 5 is another literary adaptation, the rom-com “The Idea of You” on Amazon Prime Video. That’s followed by another string of Netflix programs, including two more comedy titles. The standup special “Katt Williams: Woke Foke,” which streamed live on May 4, is the No. 6 most-watched program this week, and comedian John Mulaney’s series “John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in L.A.” is No. 8. In between those two titles, at No. 7, is the buzzy black comedy “Baby Reindeer.”

Apparently, every streaming platform gets an adaptation this week, as Max’s “The Sympathizer” comes in at No. 9. Closing out the list is “Fallout” on Amazon Prime Video, sticking on the chart for the fifth consecutive week.

The story on the linear side is a surge in scripted content. The chart is topped by the powerhouse competitions “American Idol” and “The Voice,” but there are six scripted shows among the linear Top 10 this week, marking the rare week where scripted content outweighs reality and game shows.

Those six scripted titles include a quartet of CBS titles: “Tracker” (No. 3), “FBI,” (No. 7), “NCIS,” (No. 9), and “The Equalizer” (No. 10). Those are joined by two NBC series, “Chicago Fire” and “Chicago Med,” at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.

“The Voice” actually has two entries this week, at No. 2 and No. 4. And of course, there can’t be a streaming chart without “Wheel of Fortune.” The May 6 airing is the No. 8 entry this week.
