'Today' Announces Ellie Kemper as New Co-Host

Today has a lot of hosts. Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, Al Roker, Natalie Morales, Willie Geist, Kathie Lee Gifford, Hoda Kotb, Carson Daly, and Tamron Hall all help present the four-hour broadcast.

A show with that many people in front of the camera surely doesn’t need another one, right? Wrong. Today announced Thursday morning that someone else is joining the gang: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star Ellie Kemper. Kemper arrived on set via a cab, and expressed her excitement to join the crew.

Her joy was shared by her new colleagues. “This is great for us,” Geist said. Added Roker, “This is so exciting. We’ve got a big star filling in during this month.”

There’s the catch: Before you start getting too excited, Kemper won’t be a permanent fixture at the show. She’s just going to be filling in over the summer as various folks go on vacation.

Today airs weekday mornings starting at 7 a.m. on NBC.
