Toadstool Shadow is best known as part of the New Fairy Tale Revival art movement. In the last several years, they’ve released two albums, a short film and many music videos, all with a unified theme of breathing new life into the old fairy tales with their all-original music.

“Lately, we’ve broadened our musical horizon, not just doing the fairy tale songs,” said Chris Till, Toadstool Shadow’s guitarist. “We’ve got a new batch of original songs about dogs, frogs, horses, birds and apple trees. Some of them turn old proverbs like ‘you can’t teach an old dog new tricks’ and ‘the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree’ on their heads. But we’ll still do a few fairy tale songs too.”

Toadstool Shadow sounds like a folky mix of the Brothers Grimm and the Andrews Sisters, doing original songs in the vein of The Beatles “Yellow Submarine.” Their current lineup is two female vocalists, Ellie DeGarmo and Margaret Colligan, singing harmony together, accompanied by Till on guitar.

“We aim to communicate a mix of good humor and wholesome strangeness,” said Till. “So, please put on your own sunflower costume and come on down to the festival.”
