TNT's 'The Closer' closes with a bang

The series finale of The Closer on TNT attracted 9 million viewers — making it the No. 1 most-watched cable show this summer.

The last episode of The Closer was followed by the premiere of Major Crimes, which lured 7. 1 million. That was enough to help it earn the distinction of being the No. 1 series launch in cable this year.

TNT now has the top three new series launches in cable for 2012: Besides Crimes, Dallas attracted 6.9 million and Perception notched a 5.6 million. Monday’s series finale of The Closer was also the drama’s second most-watched episode ever, behind the September 2007 midseason finale, which averaged 9.2 million.

Starting next Monday, Major Crimes will move into The Closer’s timeslot at 9 p.m.
