Titans’ offensive line finishes dead-last in PFF’s rankings
Pro Football Focus posted its end-of-year rankings for the offensive lines of all 32 NFL teams and the Tennessee Titans did not fair well, as you’d expect.
In the end-of-year rankings from PFF’s Sam Monson, Tennessee was dead-last on the list at No. 32 overall. Here’s what Monson had to say about the group.
Tennessee’s line ranks dead last in PFF pass-blocking efficiency over the season (81.3), surrendering 172 pressures on 531 pass-blocking snaps.
The Titans finished third worst in the league at generating yards before contact in the run game, averaging just 1.0 yards on the year.
Monson also unsurprisingly listed Nate Davis and Ben Jones as the two best linemen from the group, which is accurate. Jones was Monson’s pick as the better of the two, though.
Best Player: Ben Jones
The two best players on the Titans line (Ben Jones and Nate Davis) each played in 12 games. Jones allowed one sack and 10 total pressures in those games while finishing with the best PFF run-blocking grade on the line.
Struggling in pass protection is nothing new for a Titans offensive line that has done so for years now, but the struggles in run-blocking were at least a bit surprising considering that has always been a strength for this unit no matter what.
We don’t need to re-hash how awful Dennis Daley and Aaron Brewer were, or the struggles of Nicholas Petit-Frere, or the injuries that plagued the group the entire season. Been there, done that.
What’s important now is the Titans fixing this unit, which could take up to four new players. Daley and Brewer will not be starters in 2023, Jones may retire because of concussions, and Davis could leave in free agency.
The revamp will start in free agency, where the Titans must add at least one veteran starter, and quite possibly more depending on how things shake out with the aforementioned players.
They can then wrap up the revamp in the 2023 NFL draft, where they should be looking offensive line at No. 11 overall. It’s possible the Titans add multiple linemen there, also.
