Tina Turner makes first red carpet appearance in 5 years to support musical about her life

Tina Turner looked simply the best as she made her first red carpet appearance in five years in London, England, on Tuesday night.

The 78-year-old music icon stepped out with her husband, Erwin Bach, for the opening of Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, a production based on her life, at the Aldwych Theatre.

Rocking a black suit, lace gloves and sparkly silver shoes, the GRAMMY winner was all smiles as she arrived at the event, and posed with Tony-nominated performer Adrienne Warren, who plays Turner in the musical.

Warren appeared in Dreamgirls, Bring It On: The Musical and Orange Is the New Black prior to this production, which chronicles Turner’s tumultuous rise to becoming one of the biggest superstars in music.

“It's difficult to see someone else do what we did for 40 years,” Turner told BBC News following the premiere. “I'm a perfectionist, so I look a little bit critically. But when I look and see it done so well, I feel proud.”

The legend also took to Instagram to share her joy at finally being able to share the production with the world.

“After 3 years of hard work from our fantastic cast & crew, @TinaTheMusical makes its World Premiere Performance @TheAldwych tonight,” she captioned a photo with cast and crew on Twitter. “It's meant so much to me to be so closely involved in this production. To all my fans & audiences, I hope you enjoy the show! Love, Tina x.”

Turner has been absent from the spotlight in recent years, having retired from music and moved to Switzerland with Bach.

While she has attended various events, she hasn't been snapped walking a red carpet since an appearance at Giorgio Armani's One Night Only fashion event in Rome, Italy, in 2013.
