Tina Knowles-Lawson files to divorce Richard Lawson after 8 years of marriage

Tina Knowles-Lawson and Richard Lawson are ending their marriage after eight years.

Knowles-Lawson filed for divorce on Wednesday in Los Angeles with her date of separation listed as Tuesday, according to court documents obtained by USA TODAY.

The fashion designer cited "irreconcilable differences" for their cause of divorce.

Knowles-Lawson asked the court to terminate their ability to award spousal support to either party and have her name restored to Celestine Knowles, the documents state.

USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Knowles-Lawson and Lawson for comment.

The former couple got married in April 2015. They dated for two years prior but had known each other for decades.

Knowles-Lawson was previously married to Mathew Knowles from 1980 to 2011. They welcomed daughters Beyoncé and Solange during their relationship.

Lawson was also married prior to Knowles-Lawson. The actor wed Denise Gordy in 1978 and divorced in 1989. Lawson and Gordy are parents to daughter Bianca Lawson. He is also a father to Ricky Lawson from another relationship.

On Lawson and Knowles-Lawson's wedding anniversary in 2021, the "All My Children" actor recalled the moment that his late sister Gwen introduced him to the fashion designer.

"I thought you were one of the most beautiful women I had ever met. Breathtaking.!! The thing that was so striking was that your beauty continued to be enhanced by your incredible heart, compassion, empathy, generosity, and philanthropy," he captioned a photo from their wedding on Instagram.

Lawson added that at the time Knowles-Lawson was married and pregnant with Beyoncé so his desire for her "could only live in my fantasy."

"It took 32 years for my attraction for you to come full circle. It was well worth the wait," he wrote. "You're a revolutionary, visionary, incredible artist, a fashion icon, a leader, a cultural beacon, a hot sexy ratchet God warrior and only second to God, You are my wife. How highly favored Am I???"
