Tina Fey and her composer husband Jeff Richmond are celebrating the movie musical adaptation of Mean Girls at its New York City premiere.

The couple, who married in 2001, co-wrote the musical theater adaptation of the 2004 comedy classic, which Fey also penned. They are parents to daughters Alice, 18, and Penelope, 12.

This isn’t the first time the pair have collaborated. Fey and Richmond previously worked together at Saturday Night Live and on Fey's sitcom 30 Rock. In 2015, Richmond executive produced and composed for the Netflix sitcom Fey co-created, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

In 2018, the Mean Girls musical opened on Broadway before closing in 2020. The same year, it was announced that Paramount Pictures planned to bring the musical from the stage to the screen. Lorne Michaels returned as a producer along with Fey, 53, as screenwriter.

Richmond, 63, reworked the stage musical’s songs for a film soundtrack. The movie’s soundtrack will have 11 songs from the original playbook in addition to two originals, one co-written by Reneé Rapp and another featuring Rapp and Megan Thee Stallion

Fey and Tim Meadows reprise their roles from the 2004 original production as Ms. Norbury and Principal Duvall, respectively. For the 2024 movie, they are joined by Rapp, Angourie Rice, Auli’i Cravalho, Christopher Briney, Busy Philipps, Jaquel Spivey, Avantika and Bebe Wood.
