Tina Fey and Amy Poehler did a quick send-up of Weekend Update at the Emmy Awards by revisiting their time on the SNL news desk to announce the winner in the Outstanding Variety special category.

“We’ve reached the stage in life when we’ll only present awards sitting down,” Fey quipped as the duo were seen sitting behind the Weekend Update desk.

They proceeded to alternate, introducing each nominee with a one-liner in the style of the fake newscast from SNL

“The only show that’s longer than when they air Titanic with commercials on TBS, the Oscars.”

On the Chris Rock: Selective Outrage live comedy special: “Chris could be here tonight but if he wins we’ll accept on his behalf because we miss getting Emmys.”

On The Apple Music Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show Starring Rihanna: “A concert so good, it got us all pregnant.” (The music superstar revealed her pregnancy on the special.)

On Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium, “Now I can’t speak for Elton but he egot to be excited about that.” (more about that later)

The two also indirectly referenced Fey’s new movie musical Mean Girls based on the stage musical of the same name, which in turn was an adaptation of Fey’s 2004 movie.

Poehler listed the 75th Annual Tony Awards, nominated for “celebrating the best musicals that were based on movies which will probably be movies again.”

Interjected Fey, “There’s nothing wrong with that.”

The Elton John special was announced as the winner, giving the music icon an EGOT status as he completed his collection of Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards.
