*NSYNC is tearing up ‘90s kids’ hearts with their recent reunion.

After sparking reconciliation rumors back in August 2023, the ‘90s boy band — comprised of Chris Kirkpatrick, JC Chasez, Justin Timberlake, Lance Bass and Joey Fatone — officially reunited at the MTV VMAs a month later, their first joint appearance together in more than five years.

Naturally, the impromptu outing caused a fan-frenzy, with even Taylor Swift fangirling over the reunion as she accepted best pop video from the group on stage.

On the heels of their VMAs appearance, the group kept the momentum going with the announcement of their new track for the Trolls Band Together soundtrack.

While this isn’t the first time the group has reunited — having previously joined forces for their Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in 2018 and Justin Timberlake’s Video Vanguard Award performance in 2013 — the new song will mark their first in over two decades.

Here’s a look at their recent reunion timeline.

March 28, 2023: Trolls Band Together trailer seems to make a reference to *NSYNC

*NSYNC’s musical reunion was first teased in March 2023 as Universal Pictures released the first trailer for Trolls Band Together. The third film in the franchise, in which Timberlake voices one of the main characters Branch, follows a boy band-centric plot.

Notably, the film's trailer made some cheeky references to several iconic '90s boy bands, with a character saying, "We’re out of sync. We’ve gone from boys to men, and now there’s only one direction for us to go: the backstreets."

When fans scanned the QR code, it took them to a site with a "play" button; when pressed, a whistling tune was played. (It now teases the song's official drop on Sept. 29.)

The appearance was met by huge screams from the crowd, including Taylor Swift who later received best pop video from the band (and a few friendship bracelets).

“Are you doing something? What's going to happen now?” Swift asked the band on stage. “They're going to do something and I need to know what it is!" *NSYNC all coyly smiled as Chasez and Kirkpatrick made "shhhh" motions with their hands.
