That Time Trump Called for George W Bush’s Impeachment – and Dismissed Bill Clinton’s as ‘Nonsense’ (Video)

President Donald Trump may have spent the last few months railing against what he calls the “witch-hunt” that led to his Wednesday impeachment, but in 2008, he said he felt that President George W. Bush should have been impeached and the impeachment of President Bill Clinton was “nonsense.”

In a clip of an old interview posted Wednesday by CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, Trump praises House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a woman he regularly disparages now. Back then, he called her “impressive” and said she was someone he liked a lot, though he was “surprised that she didn’t do more in terms of Bush.”

“It just seemed like she was going to really look to impeach Bush and get him out of office, which personally I think would’ve been a wonderful thing,” Trump said, clarifying he meant “for the war.”

He went on, “Well, he lied. He got us into the war with lies, and I mean, look at the trouble Bill Clinton got into with something that was totally unimportant and they tried to impeach him, which was nonsense. And yet Bush got us into this horrible war with lies. By lying. By saying they had weapons of mass destruction. By saying all sorts of things that turned out not to be true.”

Pelosi commented last month on why she resisted impeaching Bush when she became Speaker in 2007, saying she didn’t want it to become “a way of life in our country.”

In a historic decision Wednesday, the House of Representatives voted to impeach Trump. He is the third president in U.S. history to be impeached.

The House voted on two articles of impeachment, drafted by the House Judiciary Committee last week, which charge Trump with abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. For abuse of power, the House voted 230-197; for obstruction of Congress, the House voted 229-198.
