'Time to move on': Whaling City Diner closes; owners to expand other New Bedford business
NEW BEDFORD — The owners of the Whaling City Diner are looking ahead as they close their doors for good this Sunday.
Elsa Defaria and her husband, Douglas Sterling, co-owners of the diner on Purchase Street, choose to remain positive, she said.
“We’ve decided it’s time to move on and to pursue new opportunities,” she said. “We had a great and successful 11 years at Whaling City Diner, and we are extremely grateful to our wonderful customers and staff who have supported us during that time.”
It’s not goodbye, however. They will continue serving up food in the South End of New Bedford.
“We are looking to future endeavors, especially continuing to expand our first venture, Clark’s Point Creamery,” she said. “We hope our loyal customers and the community will come to enjoy themselves there.”
Clark’s Point Creamery is located at 26 Brock Ave. Pizza, fall-off-the-bone ribs, fried seafood, clam cakes and of course ice cream are some of the items on the menu.

The diner is closing on Father’s Day, serving breakfast only, but they highly recommend calling to make a reservation.
