WORCESTER — The holiday season got its ceremonial start Friday evening with the annual Festival of Lights on Worcester Common. Holiday music, ice skating and the lighting of a 40-foot Christmas tree made it clear that it's that time of year. The annual event featured the sounds of Michelle Brooks-Thompson of Springfield, who starred on "The Voice" television competition a decade ago. The Festival of Lights kicks off the season on the oval ice rink, open weekends and school vacations.
