Time Arc Theatre opens with comedy in Superior's Old Post Office
Oct. 12—SUPERIOR — Time Arc Theatre opens its 2023-24 season with a new comedy, "Around the Town with Tinker Lindquist."
Tinker, a local TV talk show host in 1962, is determined to win the "Twin Ports Personality of the Year" award. On the final day for viewers to vote, she wants to make the show her best, but as the live episode unfolds, things don't go according to plan. It could be the dirty dealings by her biggest competitor, Edna Polaski. Edna's "Out of the Gutter" bowling show won the trophy last year, and she wants a strike again this year, no matter what she has to do.
Written by Teddie Meronek and directed by Jerry Bacon, the play is the first production of the theater's first full season and involves new people as well as familiar favorites.

, said that when she read the script, she felt she needed to hire a director with live TV experience. "Jerry worked on the Dottie Becker show ('Dottie Becker's Town and Country') and knows the TV jargon and what goes on behind the scenes," Laakso said.
Bacon, who previously performed in the company's
"You'll Find it at Roth's,"
said the opportunity to direct this show brings back memories.
"Funny how life circles back," Bacon said. "I began working in television doing morning news and talk programs while being involved with theater at night. Now, so many years later, I've been given this opportunity to do theater about working in television."
Laakso says support from the business community continues to build the arts and downtown activity, and she's excited about each year's growth.
"Our theater is relatively new and COVID set us back a bit, but each year gets better," Laakso said.
Now, with the Development Association providing a permanent space, Laakso is able to set a season, with a lineup that includes a Valentine's Day date night, and in June, two original one-act murder mysteries.
Performances of "Around the Town with Tinker Lindquist" will be held in the Ballroom of the Old Post Office, 1401 Tower Ave. The production runs Oct. 20, 21, 27 and 28 at 7 p.m. with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Oct. 22 and 29.
