Tim Tebow is widely known as an an athlete — in football a University of Florida Heisman Trophy winner and two time national champion who turned pro and played for the Denver Broncos, the New York Jets, and the New England Patriots, and later as a professional baseball player.

But he's much more than his athletic career, and Tebow will be bringing his experiences to the Montgomery Performing Arts Centre on Thursday, 7:30 p.m. for the Joe Sewell Memorial Award and Scholarship.

The event recognizes outstanding high school senior athletes from Elmore County, who also embody academics, character, leadership, and church and community involvement.

Tickets range from $20 to $45, and are available at mpaconline.org or by calling the MPAC box office at 334-481-5100.

Tebow is a four-time New York Times best-selling author, speaker and football analyst. But he's also on a mission of faith through the international Tim Tebow Foundation. This year for Tebow's 36th birthday campaign, he launched "unKNOWN" to help identify, find and rescue victims of human trafficking and child sex.

"Boys and girls all over the world are being abused and tortured, and we still don't even know their names," Tebow said. "Their identity is unknown."

About Joe Sewell

Joe Sewell — a quiet man of character and conviction who gave back to his community as often as he could — was an Elmore County professional athlete who displayed leadership and Christian character both on the field, and in his home community of Titus. Sewell holds two Major League Baseball records — single season fewest strikeouts in both 1930 and 1932, and lifetime record of fewest strikeouts during his 14 year career.
