Tim Tebow Celebrates Easter with Video from Visit to Jesus' Tomb in Jerusalem: ‘He Has Risen’

Tim Tebow celebrated Easter by looking back to the place where it all began.

On Sunday, the former NFL quarterback, 31, posted a video from his trip to Israel earlier this year, during which he visited the tomb where it’s believed Jesus rose from the dead — an event which is at the heart of Easter celebrations for Christians.

“I’m at one of the most special places in the entire world and that is the garden tomb which a lot of historians believe is the place where actually Jesus was buried,” Tebow said in the beginning of the video, before entering the tomb, which is located within the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.

“As a Christian, as a believer, why this is the most special place in the world is because Jesus didn’t stay there for long. He rose from the dead and as believers, we have the hope in Christ that we’re adopted into his family because he defeated death,” he continued. “We have a home in heaven because when we trust in him we went from darkness to light because of what he did right over there on the cross but not just dying, rising from the dead. We have the hope of a god that defeated death.”

Tebow’s post also got the seal of approval from his fiancée Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, who responded to the clip by posting three red heart emojis in the comment section.

The couple celebrated the holiday together in Syracuse, New York.

On Sunday, Nel-Peters, 23, shared a series of posts on her Instagram Story from Tebow’s baseball game that day — which his team won, 4-1.

Since giving up football and switching to baseball in 2016, the athlete has joined Triple AAA team the Syracuse Mets, which is affiliated with the New York Mets.

In January, the athlete proposed to Nel-Peters, a former Miss Universe, at his family’s farm outside of Jacksonville, Florida. He sealed the deal with a 7.25-carat solitaire ring and secretly flew Nel-Peters’ family and closest friends from South Africa to witness the intimate engagement.

“I’m so happy with my life,” he told PEOPLE last month. “Each day is very exciting to me.”

Tebow previously told PEOPLE he “actually wasn’t really nervous” about the proposal.

“I was excited. I wanted everything to be perfect and to go smoothly. But I wasn’t nervous to actually ask her,” he shared.

A wedding date hasn’t been set yet, but Tebow shared that he’s looking forward to planning the festivities. “I’m sure she’s got some great ideas,” he said. “It’s going to be really exciting, and I can’t wait.”

Added Nel-Peters: “I’m so excited for the wedding, and I can’t wait to spend forever with Tim.”
