The staging is a production of La Femme Theatre Productions (Lichty, Executive Director), a company dedicated to showcasing the diverse female experience. The announcement describes the production as “an evocative 21st century production of Tennessee Williams’s timeless masterpiece.”

The Night of the Iguana poses critical questions of faith and identity that are particularly relevant today as we navigate a paradoxically divided yet open world,” Lichty said in a statement. “Tennessee offers an answer by writing an epic that he described as ‘a play about love in its purest terms.'”

In the play, a defrocked clergyman encounters four women of different ages and backgrounds during one stormy night at the Costa Verde Hotel in Acapulco. The 1961 original Broadway production starred Patrick O’Neal, Bette Davis and Margaret Leighton. The 1964 film adaptation featured Richard Burton, Ava Gardner, and Deborah Kerr.

Daly has appeared on Broadway (The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial, Coastal Disturbances), and on TV in Madam Secretary and Wings. Rubin-Vega was Tony-nominated for her performances in Rent and Anna in the Tropics. Orange Is The New Black‘s DeLaria appeared on Broadway in POTUS, while Tony nominee Pendleton last appeared on Broadway in The Minutes. Lichty has appeared in La Femme’s A Lovely Sunday for Creve Coeur and The Traveling Lady.

La Femme initially presented The Night of the Iguana as a benefit digital presentation in 2020, directed by Mann and featuring Dylan McDermott, Phylicia Rashad, and Roberta Maxwell. The benefit raised over $30,000 for The Actors Fund.

Additional cast for the upcoming Off Broadway staging includes Carmen Berkeley, Eliud Kauffman, Keith Randolph Smith, Bradley James Tejeda and Dan Teixeira.

The creative team includes Beowulf Boritt (Set Design), Jeff Croiter (Lighting Design), Darron L West (Sound Design), Jennifer von Mayrhauser (Costume Design), and Kathy Fabian (Prop Design).
