Tim Burton Remaking 1958 Movie “Attack of the 50 Foot Woman” with “Gone Girl” Writer Gillian Flynn

Director Tim Burton's 'Beetlejuice' sequel is in theaters Sept. 6

Tim Burton has his sights set on a larger-than-life new project.

The Mars Attacks! director is attached to remake the 1958 B-movie Attack of the 50 Foot Woman with a screenplay by Gone Girl writer Gillian Flynn, according to Deadline and Variety.

Reps for Warner Bros. and Burton did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's requests for confirmation.

Allison Hayes starred in the original Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, about a woman who becomes giant-sized after an alien encounter, later seeking revenge on a cheating husband.

Season 2 of Burton's Wednesday is coming soon to Netflix, and his long-awaited sequel to his 1988 film Beetlejuice is in theaters Sept. 6.

Flynn previously adapted her own novel for the 2014 film Gone Girl, which starred Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. Since then, she's written the 2018 film Widows starring Viola Davis, episodes of the HBO limited series version of her debut novel Sharp Objects, and was showrunner on the series Utopia, which lasted one season on Prime Video in 2020.

Earlier this week, Flynn confirmed she'll be adapting her second novel, Dark Places, into an HBO limited series. That announcement comes nearly a decade after the book became a 2015 movie starring Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult and Chloë Grace Moretz.

"We're excited for this one," the bestselling author, who last year launched her own publishing imprint with Zando Books, wrote on social media sharing the Dark Places news.

Burton told The Independent in September that making the upcoming Beetlejuice sequel restored his passion for filmmaking.

“That’s why it is hard for me to watch the movies afterwards, because I still feel the emotional whatever of it. I don’t get a release from that," Burton said of his past experiences making major movies.

"But I do enjoy all the people I’ve worked with. On this last one, Beetlejuice 2, I really enjoyed it," he added at the time. "I tried to strip everything and go back to the basics of working with good people and actors and puppets. It was kind of like going back to why I liked making movies."
