Disney CEO Bob Iger announced a fifth 'Toy Story' movie is in the works back in February

Tim Allen and Tom Hanks could be voicing Buzz Lightyear and Woody again soon.

During Allen's appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Tuesday, the actor, 70, said Disney reached out to him and Hanks, 67, about reprising their voice roles for a fifth film in Pixar's flagship franchise.

Bob Iger, head of Disney, said it was on," Allen said, when host Jimmy Fallon asked whether Pixar may embark on a potential Toy Story 5. "He actually said it was going to happen. They have reached out to Tom and I to reprise the roles, [but] they’re not saying anything about it.”

“What it is for people like me, it’s just like… you wonder if four was too many, is five going to be too much?" Allen said.

"The writer that’s doing it wrote one of the better ones and he said, ‘If I didn’t get this right, I wouldn’t do it,’ so it could be a very, very interesting way to reunite it," Allen said.

“I’d love to see it. They’re all great,” Fallon said of the Toy Story films.

Disney CEO Iger announced that the Toy Story, Frozen and Zootopia franchises would receive new sequels back in February. Iger did not provide further details about those projects at the time, though he announced Disney is also working on a Frozen 4 last week during an appearance at Hong Kong Disneyland.

Allen and Hanks have starred among ensemble voice casts in four Toy Story movies, dating back to 1995's original. Toy Story 4 debuted in 2019, and Disney and Pixar released a spinoff film titled Lightyear that starred Chris Evans as Buzz Lightyear.

Allen previously addressed a future for Toy Story and his friendship with longtime costar Hanks during a November 2022 appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show. At the time, Allen did not directly answer a question about a future Toy Story entry, though he did say he and Hanks "really became very close friends from Toy Story 1."

"He and I differ on so many things. I adore that man's heart and mind," Allen said of Hanks at the time, adding that the pair get together for "the most peculiar lunches."

"We've been going to lunch since Toy Story 1, two times a year, and we're like two older women 'cause we will sit almost too close to each other at a booth," he said. "It's just weird."

"And I don't think I've ever trusted a human being as much as Tom to even listen to me and vice versa," Allen told Clarkson. "We have very different opinions on so many things, but he's gotten me to accept — he's really a wonderful and engaging person. He's the first guy to listen to me and doesn't judge."
