The mood isn’t entirely cheery as Tim Allen faces some serious competition in the trailer for the second season of Disney+’s The Santa Clauses.

This holiday-themed series returns to the platform with its two-episode season premiere set for Nov. 8, following the first season that launched last year. Eric Stonestreet joins the cast as Magnus Anta, aka the Mad Santa, who was in charge of the North Pole in the 14th century and aims to challenge the current reign of Scott Calvin (Allen) and his family.

“I am Santa, the rightful Santa,” Stonestreet exclaims in the footage released Tuesday. “The Santa who occupies the North Pole now is a fraud!” He adds, “Revenge will be swift — and sweet. I am Santa, after all.”

At a different point in the trailer, Mrs. Claus (Elizabeth Mitchell) is seen brandishing a futuristic weapon that goes by an intimidating name. “I’m a little uncomfortable knowing we have a weapon at the North Pole called a Santa Blaster,” Allen responds.

The show’s second season focuses on Scott Calvin attempting to train his son, Cal (Austin Kane), to take over as Santa Claus after struggling to find a bona fide replacement in the series’ first season. The cast includes Elizabeth Allen-Dick, Devin Bright and Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias, with Tracy Morgan in a guest role as the Easter Bunny.

Allen, Jack Burditt, Kevin Hench, Richard Baker, Rick Messina, Jason Winer and Jon Radler are executive producers.

The series continues the film franchise that began in 1994 with The Santa Clause and was most recently seen on the big screen with 2006’s The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause. Stonestreet is best known for his Emmy-winning role of Cameron Tucker on the ABC comedy Modern Family, which signed off in April 2020 after 11 seasons.
