TikToker slams date for sending her home because he was 'too embarrassed' by her outfit: 'Are you kidding?'
A woman caught attention and sympathy on TikTok after sharing that her date sent her home before the start of a holiday party because he didn’t like her outfit.

Nikki Jabs (@nikki.jabs) told In The Know that she’s always chronicled her dating life on various social media platforms — so she didn’t give a second thought to talking about the incident on TikTok.

“I used to post my dating chronicles on Snapchat many, many years ago,” she said. “I transitioned to posting them on Instagram earlier this year when I began dating again and was encouraged by a long-time friend to begin posting the dating chronicles on TikTok very recently. I post the good, the bad and the ugly. This one was bad and maybe a little ugly because I was crying a lot.”
Jabs’ viral dating story focused on a guy she had been seeing and even living with for about three weeks.
“It’s been three weeks. I spent 40 minutes on my makeup to meet his friends and coworkers at a grand opening for the retail company he works for,” she wrote. “He was too embarrassed to be seen with me in this outfit, so he sent me home in an Uber and went to the opening without me.”
In another TikTok, she recounted the story in full.
“Today, I went to go pick him up from work, and we were going to go to dinner and then his work function,” she explained. “When he got to the car, he couldn’t stop staring at me and I had a feeling [of] what was coming.”
After she asked him multiple times why he was staring at her, the date finally admitted, “You just look so pretty.”
“I’m like, ‘Is this your way of telling me I’m overdressed?'” Jabs recounted. “He said, ‘Well, maybe not for dinner.’ I said, ‘Are you going to be embarrassed if I show up to your work function like this?’ And he didn’t say anything.”
Jabs said she then offered to go home and change. But once they got to the restaurant, she told him she was either going to the party dressed as is or not going at all.
“And then he said, ‘Well then can I call you an Uber?'” she said.
In a follow-up video, Jabs showed off her entire outfit — a long-sleeved back crop top with high-waisted pants.
“He wasn’t comfortable with me around his coworkers but was comfortable sending me home with a stranger in an Uber.”
“Are you kidding me?” Jabs said to the camera. “It’s an inch of midriff.”
Jabs shared that her date had made a few concerning comments in the days leading up to the party. In a screenshot of a text exchange, Jabs even told a friend, “Every time I start to get ready to go out (i.e., put on makeup), [he] tells me not to.”
The friend replied, “I don’t like that…”
Jabs also addressed why she had moved in with the date so quickly. Normally, Jabs travels and works out of a van, and according to a video she filmed when they first started seeing each other, the date told her he’d love it if she moved in with him.
Commenters accused him of “love bombing” — a manipulation tactic used to describe when a partner bombards you with attention and affection, only to stop abruptly and start being cold.
Since posting, Jabs has not been in communication with the date at all.
“I have not heard from him since I had to go back and grab my laptop a couple of hours after I had moved out,” she said in an email. “That was the last time we spoke to each other, and neither of us has reached out to one another.”
Ultimately, the feedback from the millions of TikTok viewers was supportive of Jabs, which surely helped her get over the breakup.
“I am so happy to have left at three weeks instead of three years,” she said. “I definitely didn’t expect the video to go viral, nor did I expect it to gain global traction with news articles!”
To anyone in a similar situation, Jabs advised being wary when it comes to too many compliments and “suggestions” from a significant other about your appearance.
“Be flattered, but pay attention to comments that begin to compare, suggest and request to change your appearance,” she said. “ If your partner truly loves you, they will accept you for who you are and how you choose to present yourself.”
