TikTok mom shares what not to say to adoptive parents: ‘Please stop asking’
A TikTok foster mom has opened up about which questions you should definitely not ask adoptive parents.
A parent who posts under the username Raising Cultures (@raisingcultures) posted a video that gives a detailed rundown on questions that adoptive parents are tired of hearing. The TikToker, who is an adoptive parent herself, has logged more than 240,000 views for her TikTok and received tons of support in the comments section.
The North Carolina-based mom began: “For the sake of adoptive families, please stop asking:”
“1. Where are the real parents?”
“2. Do they have real siblings?”
“3. Will you have your own children?”
According to the mom, the answers to these all-too-familiar questions are clear as day.
“We are their real parents! They are real siblings! We do have children of our own, 4 to be exact,” wrote the proud parent, as a slideshow of her family played in the background.
“When we decided to become foster parents, we didn’t realize it would lead to us completing our family,” the TikToker continued. “My husband and I have suffered many miscarriages and failed IVF attempts.”
The filmer said that while the couple has one biological daughter, there’s no difference between how they feel about her versus how they feel about their three adopted children.
“At the end of the day, we are happy God chose us to be a family,” the TikTok mom shared.
‘You are their real parents’
The comments section was filled with support for the adoptive parents and their important message.
“I’m adopted and you are their real parents and mine are too. Thank you!” wrote one appreciative user.
“Literally tearing up. Such a beautiful family. I dream of adopting,” wrote another inspired TikToker.
According to the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute, more than 437,000 children are living in the U.S. foster care system on any given day. Now more than ever, families come in all shapes and sizes. So making sure you do what you can to make all parents and children feel comfortable is essential!
