Tiki Peeky: Hamptons South Seas-themed gathering previews Salvation Army's Christmas gala

QUOGUE, N.Y. — The board members and supporters of the Salvation Army of Palm Beach County emerged from their gilded summer cocoons to celebrate a different paradise on the other side of the world.

''Tiki Night'' took place July 21 at Trader Vic's Tiki Hut in Quogue and celebrated the island edens of the South Pacific.

Susan Cushing, Christine Ansbacher, Missy Chilton, Joan Parker and Beatty Cramer were chairwomen for the evening, which served as a Save-the-Date kickoff for the 2023 tropical-themed Salvation Army gala.

The poolside evening included cocktails with little paper umbrellas, hors d'oeuvres, music, and the chance to see how friends and neighbors interpret "Tiki Chic" when they don't have their Lilly-filled Palm Beach closets to dig into.

Not bad actually — splashy floral prints, those Man Friday straw hats, leis, and even a few "grass" skirts and coconut bras that you just know cost somebody an hour's ride to the Riverhead party store.

More than one-third of the available tickets for the gala were sold at the event.

The ''Christmas in Paradise" gala that takes place Dec. 16 at the Beach Club will have a tropical theme. So hang on to those grass skirts and coconut bras.

More than 50 people attended. Proceeds assist the Salvation Army in its mission to "doing the most good" worldwide by meeting both the physical and spiritual needs of the poor, the destitute and the hungry.
